INSPIRATIONS

  • Smash and Grab. Directed by Brian Larsen, Pixar Animation Studios, 2019.

This short film was produced by Pixar. I drew a lot of inspiration from its plot and world-building. The story of "Smash and Grab" revolves around two worker robots, Smash and Grab, who seek freedom and try to escape to the outside world. This film was very helpful in illustrating how to convey a story about the daily life of a non-speaking robot to the audience. Additionally, the setting of a fictional planet and space, rather than Earth, was extremely useful for me in constructing the world of my own work.

  • K.I.T. Directed by Brandon D. Hill, 2021.

This short film was created entirely using Unreal Engine. I drew inspiration from its sound effects. Like "Smash and Grab," this film also features a robot as the protagonist. However, the main difference is that almost all the sound effects in this film are piano compositions. While faint sounds like the robot's footsteps can be heard, the slow, somewhat melancholic piano melodies perfectly match the atmosphere of the film's world, which deeply impressed me. I learned the importance of choosing sounds that fit the world of the film from this piece.

  • RUIN. Directed by Wes Ball, Oddball Animation, 2011.

This piece is an early short 3D animation film by Wes Ball, known for directing "Maze Runner" and "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." I drew inspiration mainly from its technical and design aspects. The world, characters, vehicles, and the sense of immersion expressed through 3D animation in this work are all indistinguishable from reality. While the realistic expression depicted in this film may not be what I aim for in my current project, the futuristic character and vehicle designs, as well as the smooth animation techniques, are all aspects I find highly informative as I work on my project.
